Come out to the apiary, don a veil (provided), and dive into the hive with us! We have several tentative dates, and will add more as our schedule allows. Max. 10 participants. Click "EMAIL WHEN AVAILABLE" and we'll notify you as soon as we have dates set.
There are 3 apiaries where we have good access and parking, choose your desired date and location: Princeton Lavender, Jennings Farm in Medford, and Jobstown Farmstead. Exact location to be provided upon registration.
This runs approximately 2 hours, 12pm-2pm, weather permitting. If weather forecast isn't favorable for calm bees (including rain, wind, impending storm, temperature, etc.) you will be notified asap and given the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
Social distancing protocols will be implemented. Please bring a mask to use as necessary.
During check out when you enter personal information, you must provide a PROPER EMAIL ADDRESS- this allows us to email the Release of Liability Form- this must be fully completed and may be returned to us on the day of the workshop. This is a firm requirement.
Veils and rubber examination gloves will be provided. Clothes: wear comfortable, light colored, long sleeved shirt, pants, closed shoes. Bring some water. AVOID WEARING PERFUMES (deodorants, perfume, cologne, clothing detergents, lotions, etc.)
We will provide an overview of honey bee biology, hive dynamics, and challenges facing our beloved honeybees. The main focus of this field day is to give you direct access and hands-on experience! You will perform hive inspections along with us, and we'll explain the process as we go.
You'll gain a new appreciation for the art of beekeeping, and hopefully catch the "bug" to start a colony of your own! And you'll leave with a jar of delicious MCA local wildflower honey!
